The Rise of Lighthouse Social: Fulham’s Trendiest New Club by Shahid Khan’s Vision

Shahid Khan, the billionaire owner of Fulham FC and the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, has launched a new private members’ club known as Lighthouse Social at the iconic Craven Cottage. This stylish venue occupies the top three floors of the new Riverside stand and boasts breathtaking views of the Thames and the London skyline, officially opening its doors on June 11.

Jamie Caring, a key consultant on the project and son of the renowned club owner Richard Caring, has been involved since the beginning. Previously associated with Nick Jones and the global expansion of Soho House, he describes Lighthouse Social as reminiscent of “the apartment of the coolest friend you know” – a vibrant alternative to the typical members’ club.

Caring emphasizes that while many clubs seek to dazzle, Mr. Khan understands the true value lies in building a community rather than merely creating a lavish space for himself. This philosophy influences the welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere of Lighthouse Social.

The design of Lighthouse Social distinguishes it from the opulent Mayfair clubs owned by Richard Caring, opting instead for a relaxed but chic vibe. With a rooftop terrace ideal for enjoying a margarita while watching the boat race, it offers a stylish alternative for west Londoners seeking leisure without venturing to the West End.

Stuart Forbes, another key designer of Lighthouse Social and former member of the GB rowing squad, led the design effort through to completion. Partnering with the Parisian interior design duo Dion & Arles, known for their innovative aesthetic in high-end restaurants, they created an exceptional environment that stands apart from typical club layouts.

The membership demographic aims for a balanced mix of men and women aged 25 and up, with the club also welcoming younger children to a dedicated creche called Little Lighthouse. While under-17 guests must leave by 6 PM, dogs are welcome throughout the venue.

Lighthouse Social offers numerous lounges, each featuring distinct decorative elements. Notable spaces include the third-floor River bar, showcasing refined art deco elements, and the Conservatory, adorned with a unique William Morris print, marrying traditional English charm with contemporary flair.

Caring highlights the exceptional diversity of spaces within Lighthouse Social. The third floor features multiple interconnected areas designed for lounging, dining, and entertainment, while the upper floors include additional unique spaces like a games room named The Escape.

Personal favorites among the spaces are the stunning rooftop areas, which offer rare panoramic views of London, named after glamorous French resorts—”Nice” and “St Tropez.” These spaces promise an enticing atmosphere for socializing and events, complete with a separate infinity pool part of a standalone spa for members’ exclusive swim sessions.

Smaller, thoughtfully designed spaces like The Carriage Room, echoing the grandeur of luxury trains, and The Overlook, with its artistically crafted wallpaper, create intimate settings that enhance the clubhouse experience. Lillie’s bar features a baby grand piano, adding a musical touch to the venue.

Among the most photogenic spots is the chic unisex bathroom on the fourth floor, boasting stunning river views and a mirror-clad design that provides room for socializing. Attention to detail is paramount as the team finalizes every element leading up to the launch.

Caring reflects on the lessons instilled by his father: the pursuit of excellence means striving for more than just adequacy. Lighthouse Social showcases this commitment to quality, aiming for a ten out of ten experience.

Membership options include annual fees of £1,200 for individuals over 30, with discounted rates for those aged 25-30, and a unique package for child members allowing access to the creche.
